Today I went to my friend George's Son's viewing and funeral Mass at Saint Charles Church in Drexel Hill. Kyle was 14 years old, full of life, a happy go lucky kid who thrived to please anyone around him. I met Kyle years ago, and my younger Son Nicky and Kyle were buds. As a Dad, I can only imagine the thoughts and feelings going on in Kyle's families' heads right about now. My heart goes out to them and the outpouring of love and caring today from hundreds of people was beautiful and righteous.

You never said I'm leaving.

You never said Goodbye.

You were gone before we knew it, and and God knows only why.

A million times we needed you, a million times we've cried.

If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died.

In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still.

In our hearts you hold a special place no one can ever fill.

It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone.

For a part of us went with you the day God called you home.

To George, Doreen, Brittany, Breahanna, George II, family & friends, my heart and the hearts of hundreds of others go out to you.

I took notice of this reply and am posting it in the hopes that it will raise awareness about cats being stolen in Delaware County, especially in the Upper Darby area. As far as the Animal Coalition of Delaware County being involved with some sort of "Cat Napping" ring, as the below poster suggests, I would have to say that in my opinion in this lawsuit happy day and age?

No Comment other than to say something does smell fishy here. Maybe someone over at the Delaware County Daily Times can investigate this?

Due to recent reports of missing cats in the Drexel Hill / Havertown area, I wanted to post a warning to neighborhood cat owners about the Animal Coalition of Delaware County, a local organization purportedly concerned with animal welfare and who place cats into foster homes and special sections at local PetSmarts.

This is an unsettling story in two parts:

(Part One)

Our beloved indoor-outdoor cat (a neutered, male, absolutely beautiful orange Main Coon mix who answers to 'Saab,' in case you've seen him) went missing from our Drexel Hill home and the area around it about a month ago. He was about nine years old, perfectly healthy, and a very solid animal capable of holding his own in a fight and finding his way home, so we believed him to be alive somewhere, possibly taken in by a concerned animal lover. We searched for him all over the neighborhood, knocked on doors, and registered a lost report with the Delaware County SPCA, heading there every day or so to check the intake rooms for him.

So far, no sign.

After weeks of looking for our boy, our family agreed that, since we had always been a multiple-cat household, we wanted to welcome a new kitten or two into our home. While still searching for our cat at the SPCA intake rooms, we kept our eyes open for kittens in the adoption rooms. When we could find no kittens at the SPCA, we reluctantly turned to Pet Smart and were immediately enamored with two little kittens, a brother and sister. We were told that they were adoptable through an organization called the Animal Coalition of Delaware County (AC DC) and that, pending a clean vet record, we'd likely be able to bring them home within the week.

Of course, that hasn't happened. Through we put in an application and have a vet record of always spaying, vaccinating, and treating (when necessary) our animals, some of whom lived with us for upwards of 20 years, we have not heard from anyone at the Animal Coalition, save once, when we were informed that the kittens would be carted around to "meet and greets" to ALL of the potential families, whose applications were allowed to pile up before any adoption could be finalized. (Wouldn't you think that, with so many cats in need of homes, one happy, loving home would be as suitable as the next?) We were also told that it would be "impossible" to keep up-to-date online records of animals' statuses... basically, from this phone call, we started to get a bad feeling from this organization of animal activists.

(Disclaimer: Now, we respect AC DC for being no-kill and for keeping their animals healthy, but right now, that is beside the point.)

(Part Two)

So, we are still without kittens and still missing our grown-up male. All of our friends know this and have been keeping their eyes open. One friend in particular, knowing how concerned we were and knowing that we had been looking at PetSmart, called this afternoon to tell us a rather disturbing story: the blocks immediately around her mother's Drexel Hill home have, in the past few weeks, reported FIVE missing cats. Very strange. What's more strange is this:

One of those five missing cats was a three-legged, micro chipped cat owned by a local veterinarian. She of course conducted a search, and that veterinarian FOUND her cat, three legs and all, sitting in an ACDC cage in the local PetSmart. A happy reunion? One might think. But the organization WILL NOT turn the cat over to its owner, despite her profession and her cries of, "But that's my cat!" Claiming that they found the cat wandering in a cemetery, the organization says that adoption offers are already pending on this three-legged animal, and they refuse to reunite this veterinarian with her cat.

It sounds remarkably shifty, and we, as a family of cat lovers still hoping for a reunion with our missing cat, are extremely concerned. Is this organization, which could be doing so much for so many animals, really plucking calm, peaceful cats out of residential neighborhoods and putting them up for adoption because they are so against cats being outside? (Prospective AC DC parents must swear to keep their cats indoors 24/7, and the organization reserves the right to make "home visits" to make sure that that is happening.)

Now, we have no concrete proof of any foul play, since the AC DC volunteers at Pet Smart will swear until they're blue in the face that that cat was found wandering a cemetery and that there's no way it could belong to the Vet in question. But putting the pieces together raises some very alarming questions and suspicions, and bearing that in mind, I at least wanted to call attention to local cat lovers.

So, if you have a cat who enjoys the freedom of some time outside, BEWARE. Some people believe that cats shouldn't be able to enjoy their God-given habitat, and it appears to me as though some of those people will sink so far as to snatch your beloved pet right off of the sidewalk in order to put it in a "better home."

I have just about had it with the OPEC Cartel and the conspiring oil companies jacking up the price of gasoline and diesel. Just last night the Exxon at Providence & Oak went up yet another penny to $3.70 a gallon for regular. Not just in Delco but all across America, Americans are literally being hosed at the pump.

Wawa increases their coffee price 6 cents, other companies are being forced to attach a fuel surcharge to their invoices, trucking firms are reduced in size, and our so called "leaders" in Washington do NOTHING! OPEC and the oil barons are the real terrorist attacking us, and something has to be done and done soon about this.

To you gasoline station owners I say shame on you all. Don't give me that "I ain't making any money off of this" crap, the fuel in your tanks you paid for is now worth more. and you sell it at a nice profit. In Havertown the Oceanic and Sharro are owned by a guy who lives in nice sunny Florida. Think he cares about the locals up here?

Not a chance. Nor does many other station owners. 1973 was the year that they (OPEC) deliberately staged an "oil shortage". The result were long lines, odd and even licence plate sales, fights, and eventually? Much higher fuel prices. Let's hope global warming continues so that we here in the Tri State area may not have to spend our hard earned money this winter.

Are you a registered Republican in the state of Pennsylvania and reside in Delaware County? Be sure to vote for the above delegates for a real change, a much needed one. The three ponies currently in the MSM spotlight are coddlers to the corporate whores that have been ripping you off for over 90 years.

I find is quite disgusting that all of the local news media (TV, and especially the Daily Times) failed to even mention the Republican Primary that is today, April 22, 2008. In Delaware County and accross the state, Registered Republicans such as myself get to vote on whom they want (delegates) to represent their choice in November. I don't give a hoot about Obama or Hillary, as both to me are lucid and quite frankly full of crap in everything they spew out of their mouths. Same goes for John McCain, but to add to his dementia, he wants nothing more than to invade Iran and eventually Saudi Arabia, all in the name of "Democracy". Want your children to fight in his wars? I don't, and the simpletons who call sound off at the Daily Times and say reinstate the draft most likely are bitter ex Vietnam draftees, well to do stuffy asses with kids in college who will get a deferment, or just plain out liars.

Today Delaware County Republicans can vote for the the above delegates, all of whom support Ron Paul. Yeah, the same Ron Paul who is for smaller government, true American Independence and Sovereignty, strongly against meddling in other countries affairs and feeding them billions of your tax dollars, Pro Gun, Pro Life, and most of all? Adhering to the original Constitution of the United States, a document that George W. Bush and William Jefferson Clinton have managed to mangle and rip apart over the last 16 years.

MEDIA — Delaware County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Joseph P. Cronin Jr. granted the Republican candidate for the 17th District Lance Rogers a preliminary injunction prohibiting his contender Lisa Paolino from distributing sample ballots. Cronin made his decision Saturday after a two-hour, 12-minute hearing into the issue that will impact Paolino’s ability to hand out ballots on the primary election Tuesday. “The question will come down to the fact whether he’s the endorsed candidate or not,” Cronin said of Rogers. Rogers, the endorsed Republican candidate, was seeking both a preliminary and mandatory injunction barring Paolino, also a Republican, from distributing ballots and Cronin solely ruled on the preliminary matter, which, in effect, stunted her from distributing sample ballots to voters entering the polls. He said the mandatory ruling would have to be decided at a later unscheduled date. At issue was the similarity in the green ballot that Paolino was distributing and the white and blue ballot circulated by the Delaware County Republican Finance Committee. After the judge made his ruling, Guy Paolino, who was representing Lisa Paolino, said, “We respect what the court says.” Rogers’ attorney, Robert Kerns, said, “Overall, both in Montgomery County and here, it was an attempt to deceive the voters and to turn attention from the endorsed candidate.” Rogers said he was disheartened by Lisa Paolino. “That is the ultimate form of deception,” he said. “We want a level playing field. We just want a fair election.” Lisa Paolino was not present at the proceedings. However, her campaign issued a statement that read, “Taking my campaign to court is just another example of a campaign of harassment Lance Rogers has run against me. “If Lance Rogers is so scared of a piece of paper that doesn’t even have his name on it, what kind of backbone will he have to stand up for us in the state senate?” Much of the hearing was devoted to how the county GOP endorses its candidates. Carol Miller, vice chair/secretary and executive director of the Delaware County Republican Party was questioned about the party’s nominating process. She explained that when a majority of a contender’s district lies in another county, the local GOP concurs with the nomination of the majority county. “Generally, the county that holds the majority of precincts, we go by their endorsement process,” she said. Miller gave the example of state Sen. Dominic Pileggi, R-9, of Chester, whose district lies in parts of Chester and Delaware counties. As the bulk of his geography remains in Delaware County, the local GOP makes their nomination in this position and the other counties acknowledge it. Guy Paolino contested that. “Delaware County has no endorsed candidate for this position,” he said, adding there was no election or meeting in Delaware County held to nominate a candidate for this slot. Kerns said the key was the impact the ballot would have on the process. “The issue becomes what is shown to the voters,” he said. “Is this a ballot that is deceptive … that would prevent a fair election?” Friday, a Montgomery County judge issued a similar order to halt Paolino from distributing sample ballots that allegedly confused voters.

Reading John Roman's piece about local gas prices has me quite puzzled. Not once in his article does he mention WHY gasoline is so expensive. Well I will tell you why. Gasoline and especially Diesel (witch used to be far cheaper than gas) is traded in the futures markets, much like pork rinds and gold and silver. The players (people you and I would never meet) couldn't care less about any commoner, just as ALL currently elected politicians couldn't either.

The only way to have petroleum prices fall is to get of the ME, quit sending billions of "aid" to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Yemen, and a slew of other countries that reap the rewards of our so called "Tax dollars", Quit buying EXXON gas (the biggest whores), and finally?

Stop driving and walk or ride a bike. In my line of work I need to drive from job to job. I see hundreds of cars on the road at all hours of the day and ask myself where are these people going? Doesn't anyone work anymore? The biggest culprits of gas hogs are the fat ass women in their big ass SUV's blabbing on their cell phones while going two frigging blocks to by Twinkies at Wawa while their husbands are hard at work, caving in and paying to fill there wives bellies and tanks, the wimps that they are.

Yummy Bakery Cafe - Your friendly neighborhood bakery

Got the below rant from my My Space friend Elaine..

I went into Yummy's Bakery yesterday with my 3-year-old daughter. We shared a grilled cheese sandwich (and soup, and we each got a drink). The sandwich was $3.95. Neither one of us has a big appetite and we do this all the time (share a dish).

I saw they charged a $2.00 sharing fee. When I asked the waitress, she whispered to me, "It's the owner, if I ring you up, I'll take it off." Well I decided to ask him. He's sitting at the register, this ugly big fat thing that was leering at me all through lunch. I asked him why there was a $2.00 sharing fee on a $3.95 sandwich, that I never heard of this before.

He YELLED at me that I'm lucky it's not $3.00, that restaurants everywhere do this. I told him they do not, I eat out with my daughter for lunch a lot, and never had this happen. He told me I was lying, that yes they do. Actually, he's sputtering and yelling. I asked him why he was being such a jerk. He said "You're just bitching because you're pouting and not getting your way. I'm not capitulating to you so you're just being a brat." I was so shocked he said that to me. I'm so embarrassed but I had to choke back the tears and told him he is being very mean to me, that I never heard of this sharing charge before, and I've been coming to this bakery since my 12 year old daughter was in diapers. He looked at me and said I never saw you before.

I said you're a new owner! That's why! He then pointed his finger to the door and said "Get out of here!"

As I was leaving with my daughter (and yes I paid the $2) these customers that were eating (a table of 6 with an old man and lady and their daughter and her daughters) said I was in the right, that he was a jerk to me. He yelled from the counter "Stop talking to them and get out the store now!" He screamed back "You're a big bully!" and got out of there. I went to Kid to Kid with my daughter to have a good cry in the aisles while she looked at all the toys.

The customers that were in there came in looking for me (or maybe they just happened to go to that store - I don't know) and gave me tissues and told me they told the owner he was wrong, and he threw them out of the store too.

He threw a 60 year woman out of the store!

I was in there about 3 months ago and saw him scream at a waitress who then broke a coffeepot, which then made him scream more. And we had to send a turkey sandwich back because the turkey smelled rank.

He is the new owner and the cafe is so small - about 10 tables. He re-did the place from white to black and red and now it looks like Satan's Den and he is Satan, ha!

I've been going to Yummy's since I was a little girl and I love their orange cake and got all my birthday cakes there, but never again!! I just wanted to relate this story so that my Delaware County friends can pass the word.

I received the below in an e-mail from my friend and former neighbor Robbie MacNeal, who at age 19 was involved in an automobile accident that left him a quadriplegic. His strength to overcome is phenomenal, he is into writing poetry, and is getting by as good as he can.

THE BRICK

A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door! He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, 'What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?'

The young boy was apologetic. 'Please, mister...please, I'm sorry but I didn't know what else to do,' He pleaded. 'I threw the brick because no one else would stop...' With tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. 'It's my brother, 'he said. 'He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up.' Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive, 'would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me.'

Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay. 'Thank you and May God bless you,' the grateful child told the stranger. Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy! Push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home.

It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of this message: 'Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!' God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It's our choice to listen or not.

CLIFTON HEIGHTS — A member of the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force shot and killed a man who pulled a gun from his waistband during a confrontation Friday, authorities said.

The official cause and manner of the death of Joseph Mitchell, 24, was under investigation by the Delaware County Medical Examiner’s Office, while the Delaware County District Attorney’s Special Prosecution Unit was investigating the circumstances of the shooting, namely justification of use of lethal force.

So this happened a few blocks from our home and really close to Clifton Field, where children were surely playing as they had the day off. More and more it seems that thugs just have to carry sidearms (actually stuffed down their waistbands)in order to what, act cool? I'm sure someone will come forth and say that the guy was shot dead in cold blood, that he didn't have a gun and that the cops planted one on him.

The rise in crime and criminals carrying guns only makes me worry more about my Mother who is trapped in Stonehurst. That former decent place to live is now a war zone, with blatant drug deals going on. Don't believe me? Go park at the 7 -11 on Guliford Rd on any given evening, and bring your camera.

I guess I'll have to lend my Mom my Ithaca 37. Or move in.

We feel that this is an election issue for Pennsylvanians and Pennsylvania communities that should not be buried. This thing has been languishing in Appropriations since early December, 2007!
Contrary to what certain lobbying factions in Pennsylvania like the Pennsylvania Builders Association want citizens to believe, PA HB 904 is bi-partisan legislation that allows communities under the gun to take a breath, and take a second look at development issues that plague them. It also allows developers to take a second look and can it be said it could perhaps give them the time they need to go back into the community and get a better project together that all can live with?

If you really want change in America, you"ll change your party affiliation to Republican and vote for Ron Paul in the April 22nd Primary. Hillary and Obama have no chance to become President. That leaves Ron Paul, a true consertative that is for All Americans.The MSM is against Paul because they and their handlers fear him. That is why Ron Paul is scarely mentioned on TV and the Newspapers.

The helmet that could turn back the symptoms of Alzheimer's

An experimental helmet which scientists say could reverse the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease within weeks of being used is to be tried out on patients. The strange-looking headgear - which has to be worn for ten minutes every day - bathes the brain with infra-red light and stimulates the growth of brain cells.

Its creators believe it could reverse the symptoms of dementia - such as memory loss and anxiety - after only four weeks. Alzheimer's disease charities last night described the treatment as "potentially life- changing" - but stressed that the research was still at the very early stages.

Lead researcher at the University of Sunderland Dr Abdel Ennaceur and Durham University s Dr Paul Chazot are pictured with Dr Gordon Dougal and a prototype cognitive helmet Around 700,000 Britons have dementia, with around 500,000 suffering from Alzheimer's disease. The helmet is the creation of Dr Gordon Dougal, a director of Virulite, a medical research company based in County Durham. It follows a study at the University of Sunderland which found infra-red light can reverse memory loss in mice. Dr Dougal claims that only ten minutes under the hat a day is enough to have an effect.

"Currently all you can do with dementia is to slow down the rate of decay - this new process will not only stop that rate of decay but partially reverse it," he said.

Low level infra-red red is thought to stimulate the growth of cells of all types of tissue and encourage their repair. It is able to penetrate the skin and even get through the skull. "The implications of this research at Sunderland are enormous - so much so that in the future we could be able to affect and change the rate at which our bodies age," he said.

"We age because our cells lose the desire to regenerate and repair themselves. This ultimately results in cell death and decline of the organ functions - for the brain resulting in memory decay and deterioration in general intellectual performance. "But what if there was a technology that told the cells to repair themselves and that technology was something as simple as a specific wavelength of light?"

The study at Sunderland found that exposing middle-aged mice to infrared light for six minutes a day for ten days improved their performance in a three-dimensional maze. In the human trials, due to start this summer, the scientists will use levels of infra-red that occur naturally in sunlight. Neuroscientist Paul Chazot, who helped carry out the research, said: "The results are completely new - this has never been looked at before."

An Alzheimer's Society spokesman said: "A treatment that reverses the effects of dementia rather than just temporarily halting its symptoms could change the lives of the hundreds of thousands of people. We look forward to further research to determine whether this technique could help improve cognition in humans."

Now how about a helmet that keeps you from doing DRUGS?

Yes, yet ANOTHER BULLSHIT election heating up, and RON PAUL isn't mentioned. The Delaware County GOP isn't saying squat on who they will endorse. Well if they were honorable and truly patriotic people, they would endorse RON PAUL. We will see just how birds of a feather flock together, or to put it bluntly - "Who's ass is worth kissing in the name of holding down power and a job". a.k.a Cronyism? I thought that was solved.

Anyway, It's the same old same old. The Dem's been doing it for decades. When will Delco and it's "elected" leaders do the right thing? Go with what is right? Or go with the national dictate?

Only time will tell..

Word to the Delaware County GOP. Endorse RON PAUL. If your so smart with computers and tracking software, etc, you"ll see that the MAJORITY of people who know about RON PAUL in Delaware County will vote for him. And if he doesn't get the nod from the national party? People all across America have good memories, and are FED UP with BOTH Dem's and Re pubs. You Both are selling out your constituents and have been for years. It reminds me of a wife who has been cheated on but then realizes her Hubby is really leaving her and leaving her high and dry, kids and all..

If you were in "her" shoes, what do you think she would do?

Democracy Unplugged Presents

2008 Foreign Policy Presidential Campaign Forum

Democracy Unplugged presents our initial 2008 Campaign Forum, this one focusing on foreign policy. This Forum will be held on Friday Night, January 25th, 7:30 at Swarthmore Borough Hall, 121 Park Avenue.

The format will consist of questions from a student panel, followed by short speeches from each Candidate/Representative and a question and answer session. There will be a Literature Table with material from those present and many others. Refreshments will be available and donations will be accepted.

It was fantastic experience running for the PA Legislature.
I'm off on a new adventure.
I'd like to thank all those who helped and supported me at the ballot box during the campaign, I'll never forget you.
My new adventure is serving our Country in the U.S. Military. I've been asked not to divulge the details of my assignmnet by my superiors. Nevertheless, I've never been prouder, and can't think of anything more important to do with my life.
