Memorial Day - Remembering The Fallen

Here it is yet another Memorial Day in Delco. Most people seem to have left for points south and east, the rest are out firing up the BBQ's. Myself? I am also going to be cooking out, but in this day I will visit my Dad's grave and the rest of the fallen Vets at Glenwood Memorial. Today, forget about politics, forget about why these wars happen, forget about who served and who didn't and who went "In Country" Vs. "Pencil Pushers".

Today is the day where America is supposed to honor their dead. Plain and simple. I leave you with this:

We walked among the crosses
Where our fallen soldiers lay.
And listened to the bugle
As taps began to play.

The Chaplin led a prayer
We stood with heads bowed low.
And I thought of fallen comrades
I had known so long ago.

They came from every city
Across this fertile land.
That we might live in freedom.
They lie here 'neath the sand.

I felt a little guilty
My sacrifice was small.
I only lost a little time
But these men lost their all.

Now the services are over
For this Memorial Day.
To the names upon these crosses
I just want to say,

Thanks for what you've given
No one could ask for more.
May you rest with God in heaven
From now through evermore.

Thank you for that eloquent tribute. As a veteran of a war, the son of a veteran of another war, I feel each Memorial Day quite keenly.

It is always gratifying to know there are others who do also.

God Bless You.
